SUMMARY:

The Chief Clinical Informatics Officer oversees the strategic implementation and continued operations management of clinical informatics. This person is an innovative leader with the vision, knowledge and skills to leverage informatics that facilitate clinicians to improve care outcomes. This leadership role ensures that informatics solutions enhance patient care and support interdisciplinary collaboration between therapies, nursing, providers (physicians) and other clinical teams across HSA. This role will lead, orchestrate, and align national initiatives with local priorities while always focusing on clinical quality and ultimately the patient experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Become expert on the function, workflow and overall process of clinical applications used by HSA in the delivery of patient care by nurses and providers (physicians).
  • Provide leadership, direction and support to local hospital clinical informaticists.
  • Provide vision, structure, support and oversight to assure adequate training and education for clinical staff on all computer applications used in the delivery of patient care.
  • Provide leadership and vision for clinical informatics to support patient/family centered care.
  • Promote the organization's nursing professional practice model through nursing informatics, documentation transformation and workflow redesign.
  • Analyze complex clinical operations, organizational structures, and care processes to facilitate decision making regarding nursing transformation.
  • Utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer applications and ensure information systems are consistent with clinical workflow and professional standards of nursing and allied health professional practice.
  • Represent and lead the nursing and provider (physician) components of EHR implementations and ongoing operations including planning, deployment, and continued optimization.
  • Provide leadership into the development and oversight of clinical application enhancement to ensure that the improvement efforts are coordinated and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of a shared decision-making nursing informatics council.
  • In conjunction with the HSA Chief Medical Officer, facilitate the development and implementation of a shared decision-making Physician Advisory Board.
  • Responsible for ensuring processes are developed, vetted and implemented for standard downtime procedures in the event of downtime to the computer applications used in the delivery of patient care. Be present during downtimes to assist with these process implementations to operations.
  • Ensure patient portal is fulfilling the needs of the patient community, work with technical support staff to continue to optimize to meet this goal and changing needs.
  • Lead patient portal customer support team ensuring exemplary experience for patients both in customer service and in portal utilization.
  • Lead staff responsible for ensuring adherence of information systems and data submissions to all healthcare regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA, Meaningful Use) including requirements for accreditation bodies (JCAHO).
  • Travel up to 50% required.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree preferred).
  • RN or PA licensure.
  • 7-10 years of experience in healthcare operations (hospital or practice).
  • 4+ years of supervisor experience (Preferred).

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience with EPIC, Cerner, Meditech, or other healthcare EHR platforms
  • Working knowledge of Emergency Department, Inpatient Department, Surgical and Ambulatory operations
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA, Meaningful Use).
  • Experience with adult education, instructional design and curriculum delivery.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Visio, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrates highly developed communication skills, including listening, inquiry and delivering clear messages both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to present in front of professional groups and leadership.
  • Strong organizational, coordination, and follow up skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adhere to time schedules to meet project deadlines.
