Position Title: Housing Coach II, Bridging the Gap
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time
Salary: $23.50-24.50/hr

Location: Primarily based out of our Denver office at 711 Park Ave W, Denver, CO 80205. 3 days/week in office, 2 days/week remote

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the expected hourly pay rate for this position is $23.50 - $24.50 ($48,880.00 - $50,960.00 annualized). In an effort to increase equity and to avoid unfair bias historically associated with salary negotiations, we do not participate in salary negotiations outside of this stated starting salary range.

How You'll Help

The Bridging the Gap Housing Coach II performs a variety of office and community-based activities to implement the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV), also known as "Section 8". This position is responsible for onboarding new program participants, including tenants facing eviction (Renew Collaborative) and ensuring that youth aging out of the foster care system have knowledge to secure safe and stable housing.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and assistance to all program voucher holders.
  • Collaborate with Coordinated entry for new participant referrals.
  • Conducting new participant orientation (Voucher Approval Meeting/Tennant Approval Meeting) to explain federal program regulations and lease obligations, as well as public housing quality standards and housing assistance policies in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Determining initial and continuing eligibility of participants; reviewing and analyzing financial information such as contracts, agreements, and criminal records.
  • Computes housing assistance payments, tenant rental amounts, utility reimbursements, and rent increases to satisfy program guidelines and landlord requests using knowledge of program regulations.
  • Review lease documents between participants and landlords to ensure participants are aware of and understand the provisions of their lease.
  • Prepare contracts between the Public Housing Authority (PHA) and participating rental property owners to ensure rental property owners understand the rights and responsibilities of program participation.
  • Function as a liaison between interested or participating landlords, rental agencies, complexes, management companies, etc. and the participants.
  • Mediate landlord/participant issues.
  • Complete interim and annual recertification of participants, verifying income to determine and maintain eligibility with federal guidelines and regulations, conducting terminations when necessary.
  • Conduct annual inspections ensuring HCV rental properties are in compliance with HUD Housing Quality Standard inspections and provide a pass, fail rating for each unit.
  • Maintains confidential client information.
  • Maintain and update tenant information in databases in Elite, HMIS and Salesforce.
  • Maintain caseload of up to 25 Renew Collaborative (eviction prevention program) participants.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in overall program development and implementation with BTG staff, performing other relevant duties as required.
  • Represent Mile High United Way and BTG at meetings and presentations as assigned.
  • Attend community meetings, trainings and open houses related to community resources and supportive services for current and former foster youth.
  • Function as a community liaison for BTG, maintaining working relationships throughout the community with new and existing partners.
  • Maintain accurate files for all participants in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations and rules.

What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills

  • High School Diploma/GED required; associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in human services; preferably housing or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with youth development and project management.
  • Strong analytical as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Practical experience in relating effectively to people of all ranks, professions, ethnic and racial groups, and national origins.

Specials Skills/Knowledge:

  • Bilingual, Spanish speaking preferred
  • General casework management principles and practices as they apply to low-income housing assistance programs; and socioeconomic problems and needs of low-income families and individuals.
  • Interpersonal skills, including excellent speaking and writing.
  • Working as part of a team; collaborating with colleagues.
  • Negotiating, exchanging ideas, information, and opinions with others to jointly formulate innovative policies, practice, programs, or solutions.
  • Knowledge of Denver Metro Area, local community organizations, educational and training systems, public agencies, and private industry preferred.
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Database management skills preferred

Working Environment: 60% of time in typical office environment,40% traveling to outside meetings and inspections.

Physical Activities: Must have current CO driver's license, applicable insurance, and a safe driving record. Ability to lift 20lbs.
