Overview Operating Room Assistant at White Plains Hospital — The Operating Room Assistant performs patient and non-patient functions under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse. Duties include transporting patients into and from the Operating Room, assisting with patient positioning, assisting with OR turnover by bringing in and removing equipment, stocking supplies in the OR, maintaining orderliness of supplies and equipment in OR storage areas, retrieving ordered medications from pharmacy and blood from the blood bank, assisting in case picking, reporting equipment in need of repair, performing clerical duties, and all other duties as assigned. Salary Range: $36,814.05 - $55,210.35 Essential Functions and Responsibilities Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Performs tasks listed in the job summary according to policy and procedure. Integrates patient’s rights into work practice. Utilizes current methods of infection control. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision-making process related to patient care and unit-based issues. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team. Completes competency requirements. Attends mandatory in-services and staff meetings as required. Utilizes cost-containment practices. Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physical. Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Education: High School Diploma/Equivalency. Experience: Previous experience in hospital or with patient care is preferred. Core Competencies Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a role model. Retains composure under stress. Communicates effectively (written and verbal) in English. Physical/Mental Demands, Requirements & Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Hazardous chemicals listed in the hospital’s SDS data base are accessible via the hospital intranet; a copy can also be found at the hospital switchboard. Physically able to frequently transport objects >50 lbs and lift patients with assistance or assistive devices; may require difficult manipulative tasks, hand-eye coordination, and standing for prolonged periods. Must meet regulatory requirements 100% of the time. Ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes frequently. Ability to understand related concepts and remember multiple tasks during a day. Ability to detect objects at varying distances and hear with background noise.
