Job Description

Outdoor Education Specialist Job Overview Part‑time position within the Outdoor Education Department at Colgate University. Pay is $20 per hour. Work includes facilitating breakout trips, staff training, climbing wall events, ropes course facilitation, and physical education classes across campus and remote outdoor sites. Hours are variable and will often include weekends and non‑business time. The appointment is a casual wage staff position and cannot exceed 999 hours per year. Responsibilities

• Provide specialized outdoor skills training and program support for students and staff.
• Assist full‑time Outdoor Education staff in enhancing programming for student staff and participants.
• Facilitate activities such as climbing wall sessions, ropes courses, kayaking trips, bike rides, and wilderness adventure pre‑orientation trips.
• Adapt to the needs of the facility, activity program, and required skill set for each assignment.

Qualifications Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications (unless limited to in‑town work such as a climbing wall or ropes course). A valid driver’s license may be required depending on the assignment. Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience working with university‑aged students.
• Knowledge of specific regional or natural environments.

Education High school diploma or equivalent. Physical Requirements Must be able to perform specialized outdoor skills with confidence and competence. Ability to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions, including rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. Strong decision‑making skills necessary for assessing safety and ensuring high‑quality programming under physically demanding conditions.
